Carole is a native New Yorker with a culturally
diverse background.

She holds a bachelor's degree from Gallaudet Univer-
sity, a master's degree from New York University and
has continued studies toward a doctorate degree at
Teachers College, Columbia University.

Carole holds two national certificates; Registry of
Interpreters for the Deaf (RID): Certified Deaf Interpreter
and American Sign Language Teacher Association
(ASLTA): Professional. She also completed a two-year
Master Mentor Certificate Program.

Carole is a tenured faculty member of Education and Language Acquisition at LaGuardia Community College
/City University of New York (CUNY) in Queens, NY.
For the past three years, Carole participated in the
ePortfolio seminar series at the LaGCC Center for
Teaching and Learning. Carole has been an educator,
a consultant, an interpreter and a trainer for the last 30
years in the following areas: communication, language and cultural studies, interpreting, language and inter-
preter assessment, human relations and professional
and teacher training. She has worked as a Visiting
Professor at the University of the Virgin Islands and
as a Master Instructor/Consultant for the past several
years in Puerto Rico.

New York Cable TV selected Carole as New Yorker of
the Week and she was featured in the national arts and
entertainment magazine Biography. In 1999, Carole was
awarded a Humanitarian Award from St. Croix Deaf
Coalition, VI for her community work.

Carole gives presentations regionally, nationally and
internationally and serves on several advisory boards.
Her most recent work has been with the National
Consortium Interpreter Education Center: Deaf Inter-
preting Focus Group.

Her book with a DVD,The Complete Idiot's Guide to
Conversational Sign Language Illustrated
was published
September, 2004.

In April 2010, Carole Lazorisak and Deborah Mayer came to Berkeley Springs, WVA with a retreat for all signers, "Language and Life Enhancement Retreat: Walking off the Beaten Path."
